OPTIONAL ABORIGINAL ROCK ART TOUR WITH Nugal-warra Elder Willie Gordon. 7.45am -1.15pm
An early start today as you will be collected from your accommodation by Nugal-warra Elder, Willie Gordon for a half day Rainbow Serpent Tour. Willie has a great smile, an infectious laugh and will be taking you to visit the rock art sites on his traditional country outside Hope Vale Aboriginal Community. The Rainbow Serpent Tour takes you through a dramatic landscape to six rock art sites, including an Ancestral Birth Cave and the Reconciliation Cave. Wear comfortable covered walking shoes today as you’ll be walking through Willie’s country. After returning to Cooktown you are free to enjoy the reminder of the day at your leisure.

Tour Description
Day 1 (L)
You will be collected by our air-conditioned (4WD) vehicle. Travel north along one of Australia’s most scenic coastal routes towards the World Heritage Listed area – The Daintree Rainforest – Cape Tribulation. We will cross the Daintree River by cable Ferry. You will Journey through this spectacular example of Mother Nature, which contains the highest number of plant and animal species that are rare, or threatened by extinction. Your experienced guide will enlighten your journey with incredible stories and history. Continuing into the World Heritage National Park, we cross rivers and mountain ranges as we travel the famous 4wd-only Bloomfield Track. At the end of the track we stop for lunch at the acclaimed Lion’s Den Hotel (EST 1875), North Queensland’s oldest running bush pub. We continue to the unique geological oddity, which is Black Mountain, surrounded in mystery and spoken of in ancient Aboriginal legend, on arrival into Cooktown travel to the top of Grassy Hill, offering 360 degree views of the Coral Sea, Edeavour River and Cooktown. Transfer to your overnight accommodation.
Day 2
Today is free for you to explore Cooktown, or take the optional Aboriginal Rock Art tour with Nugal-warra Elder. There is much to see and do. Visit the World Class James Cook Museum, stroll along the shores of the Endeavour River. The main street has a charm and historical atmosphere, which still prevails. You can experience the unspoilt beauty of the area, which remains much the same as Cook knew it in 1770. Walking trails surround Cooktowns Heritage and scenic rim with most attractions within easy walking distance.
Late this afternoon we make our way back to Cairns through a diverse landscape which is the Outback of Far North Queensland.
