Tour Description
RAINFORESTATION is a 100 acre (40 hectare) tourist attraction set in the midst of World Heritage Rainforest, and situated half an hour by coach from Cairns and five minutes from Kuranda Village. Rainforestation has been operating since 1976 and is owned and operated by the Woodward family.
The three Rainforestation attractions are:
1. ARMY DUCK TROPICAL RAINFOREST TOUR AND TROPICAL FRUIT ORCHARD TOUR - Ride through the magnificent rainforest on an amphibious Army Duck while an experienced rainforest guide/driver explains the vast array of local plant life and wildlife. Our eleven Army Ducks are 6-wheel drive, travel on land and water, and seat 30 passengers. Let our guide take you through our Tropical Fruit Orchard which has over 45 different tropical fruit trees. Tour Time - approximately 1 hour
2. PAMAGIRRI ABORIGINAL EXPERIENCE with three segments:
The Dreamtime Walk - Take an Aboriginal culture tour with the Pamagirri guides. Stroll through a 130 metre covered walkway styled on the Rainbow Serpent, the mythical creator of all the mountains, valleys and rivers, watch spear-throwing, and learn to throw a boomerang.
Pamagirri Cultural Centre - Amid an extensive display of traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island dwellings, artefacts and art, the Pamagirri guides talk about their traditional culture, and demonstrate the didgeridoo.
Pamagirri Aboriginal Dancers - perform traditional dances about hunting, food gathering and other aspects of their culture, accompanied by didgeridoo and clapsticks. Their amphitheatre has walls of rainforest, a large protective canopy, tiers of comfortable wooden seats, and
seats 400 with wheelchair access available. Tour Time - allow 1 hour
3. KOALA & WILDLIFE PARK - Tour guides take visitors on an educational tour of the park, via a series of elevated boardwalks that allow close-up uninterrupted views of the Australian animals and reptiles. Watch koalas in their large enclosure. See large saltwater crocodiles, dominated by five metre Jack, and their smaller freshwater cousins. Wander through landscaped gardens amongst kangaroos and wallabies, see the wombat and lace monitors, and view some local snakes. Have a digital photograph taken holding one of the cuddly koalas.
Tour Time - allow 30 minutes
