Tour Description
Our destination, Mt Field National Park was proclaimed one of the first reserves in Tasmania in 1916 and it is situated 75 km north west of Hobart.
Late in the afternoon on day we travel to our cabin style accommodation at Base Camp Tasmania just outside New Norfolk. That evening we sample some Tasmania cuisine, do client introductions and an all important gear check. On day 2 0ur tour visits the beautiful Russell Falls and we gaze in wonder at the giant Swamp Gum trees before the start of the trek at Lake Dobson. Our trek is over easy to moderate terrain, we walk through forests of pines and sub alpine vegetation and trek past majestic highland tarns to our camp at Twighlight Tarn. Day 3 is a day walk along the Tarn Shelf and return to Twilight Tarn. Day 4 is the longest day, we traverse Newdegate Pass and then onto the summit of Mount Field West before our return to Lake Dobson and and our transport back to Base Camp Tasmania.
The parks diversity of plant life and modified terrain make this trek a must do while visiting Tasmania.
