5 days / 4 nights
2008 dates: 11-15 July, 29 August-2 September, 17-21 October
Day 1
The scenery is spectacular and really is the highlight of today’s drive. Once we begin the long dirt road south, we drive though a spinifex landscape of steep dark red jump-ups and over a range. The road becomes undulating as it follows the ancient fault-line into Marble bar, one of the continent’s hottest towns and once home to Australia’s best-kept military secret. Aboriginal rock carvings can also be seen on this stretch. The dirt road continues arriving at our camp near the Chichester Range in the heart of the Pilbara. (LD)
Day 2
We spend all day exploring the magical gorges and views of Karijini, the oasis in the desert. Swimming under waterfalls, in rock pools and walking amongst 100 metre cliff faces are just a few of the highlights this national park has to offer. (BLD)
Day 3
Leaving the National Park in the morning, we pass through the mining town of Tom Price before heading towards Coral Bay and Western Australia’s marine wonder, Ningaloo Reef. The afternoon is spent on the white beaches, snorkeling, walking or just relaxing with a book taking in the beautiful views. (BLD)
Day 4
A final swim in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean before a long drive south known for its abundance of wildflowers. We pass through Kalbarri National Park, with 80 km of gorges cut by the mighty Murchison River. We will camp for the night in the fishing town of Kalbarri. (BL)
Day 5
The morning is spent back in Kalbarri National Park for a walk up to Nature’s Window at ‘The Loop’ and another walk at the ‘Z-bend’ to enjoy the gorge view from Hawks Head. Then we make our way to Perth for a late afternoon arrival. (BL)
