Tour Description

AUSTRALIAN NATURAL HISTORY SAFARI: Choose a full day Rainforest and Outback Safari or a half-day Rainforest Tour. Our highly personalised excursions are limited to a maximum sized group of four to provide a quality experience observing the wildlife of the Daintree Rainforest and Far North Queensland outback. By taking only one tour per day with only four clients per tour, we maximise your wildlife encounters and guarantee a private and personal day.

This is the only tour taken by Mikael Gorbachev when he visited the Wet Tropics in July 2006.

We utilise our own rainforest property – Thylogale Nature Refuge – situated in the hinterland to the west of Port Douglas to provide an unforgettable wildlife experience. The day begins here with a walk through our private rainforest where normally shy marsupials and birds emerge from their natural rainforest habitat to greet us. On both tours morning tea with the wildlife is provided in our bush shelter secreted in the rainforest.

If you have chosen to experience our full day Safari you will continue on from Thylogale to enjoy a delectable lunch of pan-fried barramundi and freshly prepared salads. Lunch becomes a memorable occasion as you dine on the banks of Windmill Creek, a pristine rainforest stream in the splendor of Mt Lewis National Park. Vegetarians and those with other dietary requirements are happily catered for.

The afternoon on the full day Rainforest and Outback Safari is a total contrast in both eco-systems and wildlife. As the day cools we descend the mountain and travel further west providing a glimpse of the vast dry Eucalypt Forest of the Australian Outback. This afternoon segment culminates with afternoon tea on the banks of Windmill Creek, the same stream as the lunch venue, only here it flows through the Eucalypt Forest.

On the return journey we take a break at a lookout overlooking the coastal plains and have you back at your accommodation between 4:00 and 4:30pm.

TOUR GUIDE: Your guide is David Armbrust, a true Aussie local with over 24 years guiding experience in the Wet Tropics. David’s extensive knowledge of the local environment and passion for the wildlife of this area makes this tour a truly unique experience.

VEHICLE: Our vehicle is a comfortable, well appointed Toyota Landcruiser GXL four wheel drive, a vehicle well suited for venturing off the beaten track into areas not visited by mainstream tourism.
