Tour Description
This sightseeing day tour to the Cairns Highlands, includes visits to the dry savannah country and the wet tropics rainforest, as well as numerous opportunities to explore what the local food and wine producers have to offer. You tour farms, as well as taste the excellent foods and tropical fruit wines of the region.
You will experience informative, and interactive farm tours where you are able to talk with owners and family members who work the business. There is a different touring experience at every farm, and each has its own taste sensation.
FOOD AND WINE
Food and wine during a day includes visits to two tropical fruit wineries, a coffee plantation, a macadamia plantation, and a dairy farm producing both cheeses and chocolates. Your all inclusive lunch, features tropical seafood, salad, and garlic bread. If you can’t eat seafood an alternative can be arranged, with your driver/guide, on the day. There's also morning and afternoon tea supplied.
THE SIGHTSEEING
• Wet Tropics Rainforest
• The Cathedral Fig Tree
• Lake Barrine
• Giant twin kauri pine trees
• The Seven Sisters – volcanic cinder cones
• Dry Eucalypt and tropical savannah country
• Rare “Mabi” rainforest. Home to tree-climbing kangaroos
• Rich, irrigated agricultural lands, surrounding small country towns
• The towns of Mareeba, Tolga, Atherton and Yungaburra.
You will be taken off the highways, to private farms, and hidden places, with exceptional produce. It is a wonderful change of pace, providing amazing insights into Australian country life.
You travel in a small air-conditioned coach and tour private farms, making your day personalised, and relaxing. How the farmers produce tropical foods, and tropical fruit wines, is very interesting, and you often hear about it from the farmer.
The Highlander Food Trail Tour is a full day tour, on the tropical food trail, departing Cairns, and the northern beaches, six days a week.
