Hang on......What is SUPing?SUP....Huh???? Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) boarding is best described as a mix between surfing and kayaking - using a board similar to a long board which you paddle standing up using a paddle. Although SUPing is relatively new to Australia but is already the fastest growing water sport in the world!
Stand up paddle surfing is a traditional Hawaiian sport which promotes balance, strength and general fitness. SUPing can be enjoyed on flat water, rivers, bays and in the surf. It’s a good workout, whilst still being relaxing, fun and exciting way to view the natural surroundings.
By now you’re probably wondering.....do I need to be able to surf to SUP? The answer is a simple ‘No’. Not one little bit of surfing or kayaking experience is needed. It’s not even necessary to take the boards in the wave at all - as SUPing is just as enjoyable on flat water as it is in the surf.
People who know nothing about surfing regularly hire our boards to paddle in the smooth waters of the bay and up the river. Many first timers venture into the waves and most find they can catch a wave with ease!
Now you’re getting keen to give SUPing a try but you’re not sure if it’s for you. Well just head to Bundeena, hire a board for an hour and give it a try.
