Pacific Sunrise - Scuba Diving Outer Reef and Islands
The moment you step aboard Pacific Sunrise Whitsundays, you will feel as though you have stepped back in time to a traditional boutique hotel where high levels of service, low guests numbers and an atmosphere of distinction were part of the norm. Pacific Sunrise was built by a master shipwright the atmosphere is further enhanced by the tropical layout and use of a variety of exotic timbers in the construction. The fully functional galley, licensed bar and dining room with seating for all passengers, provides areas for meeting and socialising. While the various secluded balconies and deck levels of Pacific Sunrise enable guests to find their own private space and a feeling of solitude, and to enjoy the view of the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. Pacific Sunrise boasts 3 separate levels, only 8 guest suites, a maximum of 17 guests with a minimum of 5 crew. Pacific Sunrise has the largest suites of any vessel in the region and along with their accompanying private bathrooms they are the size of a regular hotel suite and fully renovated to a very high standard. All suites are air-conditioned varying in size and position throughout the vessel.
The History - Pacific Sunrise was built in 1979 by Charles Whippy & Co in Suva Fiji, launched 1981, she was the 5th and largest of this design built and the only one still sailing. She was also the largest and last timber boat of this size built in the south pacific in the prior 50 years at time of construction. Initially spending a few years in the capacity of island trader taking small cargo from island to island in Fiji, she was then taken to the United States to be sold in 1983 where the vessel featured in both movies and a television series. In 1987 the vessel was sailed to Vanuatu where she spent some years as a private yacht before sailing to New Zealand where she was sold to a company who commenced a refit to put her back into commercial survey. Once complete, she was relocated to Tonga working as a charter vessel around the northern islands and then later returned to New Zealand. New Zealand is where, after some time, she was the sold to Whitsunday Coral Cruises and an extensive 12 month refit was undertaken leading to her sailing Whitsundays to commence cruises around the islands & reef. With several millions of dollars being spent on her over the past few years she has now been restored to a level where she can offer guests the comfort and luxury one would expect of such a grand sailing ship.
The Journey - Pacific Sunrise offers a choice of 3 day 3 night cruises and will carry guests on a journey amongst the Whitsunday Islands region of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef. At these fantastic locations our crew will assist guests to snorkel and scuba dive over coral reefs, view the coral and marine life from your 2 man kayak or from the glass bottom boat, explore tropical islands, beautiful sandy beaches and island rainforest.
