Passing through quaint rural townships and the lush green undulating hills of the local farming communities, to the South Gippsland Highway, you arrive at San Remo – the gateway to Phillip Island, and this area’s sumptuous seafood capital. Cruising through this charming fishing village, watch anglers cast their lines into the fish rich waters off the jetty.
Over the bridge to the raw, rugged beauty of Phillip Island, you are off to find out more about this unique area in the Information Centre. This versatile visitors’ facility offers a wide range of interesting facts about the history, flora and wildlife, including the Little Penguin’s habits and the clown like antics of the sunbaking seals, who live in this magical region. Why not purchase a delicious meal and a fresh aromatic coffee in their friendly café, or browse through the souvenir shop for a little piece of Penguin paraphernalia?
You’ll then head down to Summerland Beach to witness one of Mother Nature’s most adorable miracles – the Little Penguin. Fall in love with these entertaining little guys as they battle the waves after a hard days feeding and playing in the pristine waters of the Southern Ocean. As the spectacular sun sets over this awe-inspiring landscape, watch these amazing little Penguins hop, skip, jump and waddle their way up the beach to sand dune burrows and awaiting hungry family. Little Penguins – also known as Fairy Penguins – are the smallest penguin species in the world and Phillip Island has the grandiose honour of housing and conserving the World’s largest colony of these adorable little seabirds. Here, you get ringside seats to an experience you will never forget!
