• Beautiful mountain and forest scenery

This relaxing day trip certainly packs in plenty of sights as it takes in some of the best of Australia in a single trip. Our tour takes you through the low mountains known as the Dandenong Ranges. Although you're only a few kilometres outside Melbourne, you'll travel through lush rainforest and see some of the tallest flowering plants in the world. Look out for waterfalls in among the trees. This part of Australia is known for its art and craft stores, as well as stunning mountain scenery. In the distance, you'll have some spectacular views of Melbourne's skyline as you travel through picturesque mountain villages, and also have views of Port Phillip Bay.

Start the day by enjoying a breakfast with real Australian touches including Aussie billy tea, Lamington cakes and Vegemite crackers. We'll take you on a trip on the newly restored Puffing Billy Steam Train, a train that's fondly remembered around the world and is now back in full working order. This characterful steam train is now a century old and known to rail enthusiasts on every continent. You'll travel on Australia's most notable narrow gauge railway through mountain scenery.

You'll experience the amazing ferns and deep forest scenery of the Dandenong Ranges and beautiful Sherbrooke Forest. You'll have the chance to spot native wild birdlife in their natural habitat, including lyrebirds, crimson rosellas, cockatoos and kookaburras. It's a real paradise for wildlife lovers, set in a beautiful location.

Deep in the green hills of the Yarra Valley you'll have a chance to stop for lunch at the Healesville Sanctuary. This award-winning wildlife haven gathers together some of Australia's unique birds and animals in their natural bush land setting. In fact you can see over 200 species of Australia's charismatic birds, mammals and reptiles in this one location. You'll be able to get close to koalas, kangaroos, wombats, platypus, emus, cockatoos, parrots and many more. There are birds of prey demonstrations and you can also see nocturnal animals in a specially built night lodge.

Remember to bring your camera! You'll see some of Australia's best scenery and most charismatic flora and fauna in a single day, so you won't want to miss anything. We also recommend you bring a water bottle, a sun hat, sun cream, a light jacket in the cooler months, and comfortable walking shoes so that you can enjoy the day. This trip is suitable for most levels of fitness but you need to be able to walk short distances. We'll take you to the heart of the rainforest, visit notable wildlife, and bring you back to Melbourne at the end of the day.
