The perfect, hassle-free way to escape Melbourne for a day, this tour whisks you away, via the beautiful Dandenong Ranges and the majestic Yarra Valley, to Healesville Sanctuary, one of the country's top nature reserves. This tour takes you from the heart of the city to some fantastic locations, while utilising some very exotic modes of transportation! Australia is known for its wild outback and weird creatures, so why not take the opportunity to get your first peak at our breathtaking wilderness, and all it has to offer?
• Journey on Puffing Billy, a world famous steam locomotive
• Experience the wonderful landscape of the breathtaking Dandenong Mountains
• Chow down on some authentic Aussie tucker, and sip on Billy tea
• Take in the Healesville Nature Sanctuary with its colourful critters and helpful guides
Your day starts with a coach ride through the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. Only a 50 minute ride from the very heart of Melbourne, you'll feel like you've stepped into another world.
Getting from Dandenong to Healesville means journeying through the breathtaking Yarra Valley. Home to a thriving wine industry, you'll feel intoxicated just looking out the window, as you take in the full magnificence of the sweeping landscape. Remembering to drink in those arresting views might be a little difficult on the next leg of your journey, as you'll be making it not by coach, but on the world famous Puffing Billy Steam Train! Lovingly restored from the colonial period, this authentic steam-driven locomotive used to be part of Australia's essential transportation infrastructure. Now it caters to tourists in fantastic style, and is guaranteed to enchant passengers, young and old alike!
There will be time, over the course of your journey, to indulge in some much needed refreshment... Aussie style! Included in the price of the tour, you'll be provided with a lunch of authentic 'Aussie Tucker', all washed down with a cup of the appropriately named 'Billy Tea'.
After all this we reach our final destination: The Healesville Nature Sanctuary. It might sound like a strange idea to make a zoo the end point of what has been, until this point, an essentially Aussie adventure. After all, with a full complement of lions, tigers and penguins and such like, from all across the world, one zoo is surely very much like another. At the Healesville Nature Sanctuary, nothing could be further from the truth. Their passion is for conserving and celebrating the native Australian wildlife, so this is your chance to see wallabies, koalas, kangaroos and crocodiles, all up close and personal!
If this wasn't enough, the sanctuary also boasts a breathtaking show, free with admission, showcasing the best of Australia's native birds of prey and parrot species. 25 years-old this year, the 'Spirits of the Sky' spectacular is guaranteed not to disappoint. After all, 25 years worth of satisfied customers can't be wrong! Boasting door to door pick up and drop off from seven central Melbourne locations, this trip will make even the biggest couch potato feel like an intrepid explorer. Comprising stunning locations, exotic animals, and novel modes of transportation, there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
