You’ll start this engaging tour from Hillarys Boat Harbour on the 10am ferry service, with free car parking facilities available. Alternatively, a courtesy coach will pick you up from selected accommodations in Perth, Northbridge or Sunset Coast at approximately 9.00 am daily. You will enjoy a delicious morning tea at the Zing Café. After you make your way to the luxury ocean cruiser with its licensed bar facilities, refreshments and snacks, pick out your perfect spot to sit and while away your time on the tranquillity of the ocean.

There’s so much to do on Rottnest. The heritage train runs through the inland to the old Oliver Hill military installation and utilises the old narrow-gauge railway track that was installed by the army in the 1930’s to the 1960’s. These small trains were used to transport ammunition, food and other supplies to the military facilities around this amazing island.

Unfortunately, the original train was retired a few years ago, but a perfect replica of the heritage rail-car is an ideal and charming way to get around. With introductions from your driver and a little tinkle on the rail-car bell, it’s off you’ll go, chuffing and rumbling over the railroad tracks. You’ll merrily travel past a series of fascinating Rottnest landmarks and landscapes, that include the airport, the pristine salt lakes and offers a great view of the coast from various spectacular vantage points. Plenty of opportunity presents itself to take perfect photos through the big picture windows.

Travelling along for about half an hour, you’ll stop at the old Oliver Hill gun battery, which was installed during World War II as protection for the mainland from a possible naval attack from the Japanese. A pleasing fact is that the battery never got to fire a shot in combat and this fantastic historical site is one of the best-preserved in Australia. The massive 9.2-inch diameter gun on display – as well as the spooky tunnel system that forms a fascinating part of Rottnest’s military heritage – will delight young and old. Whether a military buff or just looking for an interesting time, this is sure to capture the imagination.

You will partake in a perfectly presented and prepared buffet lunch at the Rottnest Lodge, plus kick back and relax for a 90-minute discovery bus tour with an informative commentary, which takes you to all the nooks and crannies on this unique piece of paradise. Keep your eyes open for the magnitude of local native wildlife and magnificent scenery and immerse yourself in its beauty.

After a rejuvenating day you’ll arrive back at Hillarys Boat Harbour at around 5:15 pm.
