This full day tour to the harsh penal settlement of Port Arthur includes a guided tour, a harbour cruise and, en route, a visit to historic Richmond and the Tasman Peninsula.

• Visit historic Richmond, home to some of Australia's oldest and most beautiful Georgian architecture.
• Traverse the cliff tops of the stark Tasman Peninsula and witness the spectacular scenery from Pirate's Bay Lookout, Tasman Arch, Devil’s Kitchen and Waterfall Bay.
• Enjoy an informative guided tour of the Port Arthur penal settlement and learn the harsh history of the early convict colony. Taste Federation Chocolate and enjoy a harbour cruise.

After being collected at approximately 7:30 am from your city centre pick up, you will depart Hobart, heading 25 km northeast to the historic village of Richmond. First settled in around 1823, Richmond is a well-preserved convict heritage site, with an abundance of colonial sandstone buildings and Richmond Bridge, the oldest in Australia still in use. Home to St John's, thought to be the oldest Catholic Church in Australia, Richmond, once a convict station and military staging post, is filled with the history of Australia's dark convict past.

Upon leaving Richmond, you will travel through the picturesque Tasman Region to the Tasman Peninsula, 75 km southeast of Hobart. You will marvel at the spectacular scenery and intriguing historical sites at the heart of this exotic wilderness, known best for its convict heritage and now the key area where the battle wages to save the Tasmanian Devil from extinction. Stark vistas of plunging cliffs and rocky outcrops – which have contributed to a number of notable shipwrecks – are part of the dramatic scenery you'll witness from the Pirate's Bay Lookout, Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen. From Waterfall Bay, you will be astounded by the breathtaking ocean views from the cliff tops.

The day's highlight is the exploration of the savage history of Port Arthur, evident in its intact penal settlement. A guided walking tour with an experienced guide will answer all your questions about the harsh history of the convicts, who were Australia's first European settlers. With plenty of time available, you will enjoy a harbour cruise and ample time to explore this historic site, before a Federation Chocolate tasting and returning to your Hobart accommodation by around 5:30pm.
