This tour serves up an authentic Australian adventure that combines the continent's regal southern coast and emerald hinterland in one amazing package. During this three-day camping trip, you'll immerse yourself in the majesty of the breathtaking coastline of the Great Ocean Road, commune with the native flora and fauna in Grampians National Park and sleep under the stars while nestled in the embrace of the Otway ranges.
After your pick up in Melbourne, your journey starts in Torquay where the Great Ocean Road begins. From the first day of your journey, you will be transported to another era as you pass through several of the quaint coastal towns that line the golden beaches of the region. You will also visit the historic Split Point lighthouse that has been watching over the shore of Aireys Inlet for over 125 years. Then you will receive your first introduction to the natural wonders of this region when you stop to view koalas along with other native animals in their natural habitat.
Next you will be treated to a walk through the surrounding rainforest, stepping along the bush paths that wind through this storied area. You'll sleep under the stars along the Australian National Heritage listed Great Ocean Road and enjoy views of the night sky uninhibited by the blinding lights of the big city.
The next day you'll encounter the ghostly beauty of the historic Shipwreck Coast and stand in the shadow of the stoic glory of the world-famous Twelve Apostles, one of Australia’s most iconic natural landmarks. You will visit the collapsed London Bridge in the Port Campbell National Park and marvel at the magnificent views to be had at the Bay of Martyrs where you can stand and take in the beauty of the Bay of Islands. Whale watching is available seasonally, but year round you will be able to stand in awe of the amazing dormant volcano that is Tower Hill, with its serene crater lakes. Then there's a stay overnight in the foothills of the Grampians, enjoying the wonderful natural setting by campfire.
On your last day, you will learn about the culture of the local Aboriginal peoples at the Brambuk Cultural Centre. Then, cool off at Mackenzie Falls following a scenic walk that will take you on a wonderful adventure where you will experience dramatic mountain views, stunning waterfalls, as well as the rugged Australian landscape around the Grampians.
For the rest of the day, you will enjoy panoramic views over the Victoria Valley and enjoy a bit of native bird and wildlife spotting. You will then take a visit to Reid's lookout and Balconies. From these perches you will be treated to unforgettable views of the Victoria Valley, Lake Wartook and the Mt Difficult Range.
After this exception panorama, your adventure sadly comes to an end with your transfer back to Melbourne. If you don’t want your exploration of the natural wonders of Australia to end abruptly after these three short but magical days along the Great Ocean Road, you can add an over land connect that will bring you to Adelaide, the heart of South Australia.
