This journey onto one of Australia's more remote, pristine wilderness regions covers the highlights of the Kimberley and its iconic attractions. Journey up the famous Gibb River Road, explore El Questro Wilderness Park, Lake Argyle and the World Heritage-listed Bungle Bungles. Experience the culture of the saltwater people on the Dampier Peninsula, and see the rugged coastline of Cape Leveque and the Buccaneer Archipelago.
Day 1: Beagle Bay, Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm & Buccaneer Archipelago
Travel through the Dampier Peninsula, and blend of pristine beaches and spectacular coastlines, steeped in Aboriginal culture. Learn about the region's fascinating history from our guided commentary. Stop for morning tea at the Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community, home of the Beagle Bay Church with its glimmering pearl shell altar. Spend time at One Arm Point Community and their aquaculture hatchery which houses barramundi, pearl and trochus shell. Enjoy a picnic lunch and an insight into the local indigenous community, before we head to the remote Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. Take a tour of this farm, which is now the oldest in Australia, and continues a remarkable family tradition. Join an extraordinary cruise through the Islands of the Giant Tides to experience the remarkable tidal flows of King Sound. The evening we stay overnight at our own private camp. (LD)
Day 2: Cape Leveque, One Arm Point & Broome
This morning we join a local guide who will demonstrate a pearl harvest. Learn how pearls are graded, and seeded before you lease as a ‘pearl expert’. Mid-morning we depart for Kooljaman at Cape Leveque. You can take off for a swim, take one quiet walk in the area, or enjoy the pristine beaches and rugged red coastline for which Cape Leveque is famous. Driving back through the late afternoon, keep an eye out for wildlife before we arrive at our Broome accommodation at approximately 6.30pm. (BLD)
Day 3: Tunnel Creek
Listen to stories of the local history and people as we travel through the remote and beautiful Kimberley landscape before our morning tea break at the Fitzroy River. Visit the Derby 'Boab Prison Tree' before we hit the Gibb River Road. Stop at the Mowanjum Aboriginal Art & Cultural Centre for an insight into the culture of the Worrorra, Ngarinyin and Wunumbal tribes and their supreme spirit-being, the Wandjina. This afternoon, explore Tunnel Creek, with our local guide. This 750-metre cave system carved through the Napier Range contains stalactites, secret caves and a large variety of wildlife. Here we also learn the legend of Jandamarra, an Aboriginal freedom fighter who used to hide-out here in the late 1800's. Don't miss a refreshing swim in an idyllic waterhole. That night we settle into our first night under the Kimberley night sky just outside Windjana Gorge. (BLD)
Day 4: Windjana Gorge & Bell Gorge
The Napier Range is over 350 million years old and home to Windjana Gorge. The gorge walls rise 90m, around us as we spend the morning searching for freshwater crocodiles, local birdlife and indigenous bush tucker. In the afternoon we go to Bell Gorge, a highlight of the West Kimberley. This idyllic retreat, boasts cascading waterfalls and crystal clear pools formed over millions of years - an easy place to spend some free time! Overnight at our private camp at Mt Barnett Station. Day 5: Galvins Gorge, Adcock Gorge & Mt Barnett Station
Spend today swimming in paradise: Along the Gibb River Road we visit the cool waters of water-lily laden Galvans Gorge and stunning Adcock Gorge. Swim in the deep, clear pools of Manning Falls and explore wandering streams, and uncover local wildlife in the waterfall pools. Overnight we camp again by billabong on Mt Barnett Cattle Station. Days 6-7: El Questro Wilderness Park
Our journey up the Gibb River Road continues to El Questro Wilderness Park where we spend two nights in our private campsite where you can join one of the many activities on offer. Include a refreshing dip in the Zebedee Springs and walk into Emma Gorge. A cruise on Chamberlain Gorge, bush tucker walk or a bird watching tour are amongst the many optional activities. You may choose to simply explore at your own leisure. (BLD/BL)
Day 8: Kununurra & Lake Argyle
We reach the end of the Gibb River Road for a few hours of leisure time in Kununurra. Travel the afternoon onto the shores of the expansive Lake Argyle, the heart of the Ord River Irrigation System which transforms this arid region into an agricultural oasis. There is free time to join a sunset boat cruise on the lake (approx AU$100pp), visit the historic Durack Homestead Museum or take on one of the many bush trails to explore the area. (B)
Days 9-10: Purnululu National Park: Bungle Bungles
After quiet morning, head down the Great Northern Highway to Purnululu National Park, where you enter the magnificent Bungle Bungles. Two nights are spent here, staying overnight in our private Bungle Bungle Safari Camp in the heart of the park. This allows you a full day to explore the highlights of this park; the Bungle Bungle Domes. Ancient rivers created this landscape of 'beehive' geological formations over millions of years. Unbelievably, only the locals knew it existed until the early 1980's; at which time the area was made into a national park in 1987. Take some time to explore Echidna Chasm (2km), known for its Livistonia Palm trees, and take a walk (2-3km) into stunning Cathedral Gorge, where towering rocks create a natural amphitheatre. There is time in the afternoon to take an optional scenic flight and enjoy a birds-eye view of the beehive domes (approx $365pp, own expense) to put it all into perspective. (BLD/BLD)
Day 11: China Wall & Fitzroy Crossing
Head today towards Fitzroy Crossing, and along the way break the long journey with a visit the gold rush town of Halls Creek to see the remarkable China Wall. We take lunch at Marys Pool and visit the remote Laarri Aboriginal Art Gallery, before an evening by the Fitzroy River at Fitzroy Crossing. (BLD)
Day 12 Geikie Gorge
A morning cruise on the majestic Geikie Gorge state the day. Nature carved this wonder through the Geikie and Oscar Ranges during the Devonian geological period. Learn of the geology of this natural wonder and see wildlife including freshwater crocodiles, birds and fish. Explore Old Fitzroy Crossing and enjoy lunch by the river before we make out way back to Broome enjoy sunset on Cable Beach. Stay overnight in Broome. (BLD)
Day 13 Broome
Explore Broome at leisure today before you are transferred to your departure flight, or continue your onward journey. (B)

Kimberley Wild provides tents, swags (including 2 - 3 inch mattresses), bottom sheets, pillows and pillow cases. You can either bring your own sleeping bag or buy one from us at $35 per person. If you choose to buy one, you are welcome to take it home following your trip or alternatively, donate it to local communities.

Travellers on this trip must bring a pair of shoes/sandals that they don’t mind getting wet and a torch.
Other recommendations include: A broad-brimmed hat with sun visor for all round protection, swimming costume and towel, walking shoes, a long-sleeved cotton shirt (sun protection), 1 pair of loose-fitting pants, a warm jumper (particularly if travelling May-Aug), personal water bottle and personal toiletries, first aid (with any personal medication required) and a sleeping bag - available for purchase at $35pp and must be requested with our office prior to travel.
Note: Luggage must be kept to a manageable amount in a small soft bag - 15 kg max. You can bring along a day pack that you can use as well for additional luggage.
Child prices apply to children between the ages of 4 and 12 years inclusive.
Kimberley Wild advises against younger children joining our tours as the days can be long, the distances travelled extended and the walks difficult for little legs.

Passengers travelling on their own who wish to upgrade to Camping Plus, but opt not to pay a Single Supplement can pay the twin share price and maybe twin shared with another traveller of the same gender where required. On camping nights, often they will still get their own tent. Travellers are still able to guarantee themselves Single accommodation (Camping or Camping Plus) if preferred, by opting to pay the Guaranteed Single Supplement. Must be selected in booking.
Single travellers MAY have to twin share with another traveller of the same gender at the Bungle Bungles Safari Camp - this is a rare occurrence.
We ask that luggage is kept to a manageable amount in a small soft bag - 15 kg max. You can bring along a day pack that you can use as well for additional luggage.
We operate in custom-built, 21 seat 4WD trucks with a PA system and built-in storage (no risky trailers!). These vehicles allow our small groups extra space (including standing room), are fully air-conditioned and, for your comfort are fitted with adjustable air-vents, reclinable seats, map pockets and footrests.
