HEADING BUSH
4 day Lake Eyre & outback
4WD SMALL GROUP ECO TOUR
DAY 1 Adelaide – Flinders Ranges
Pick up is from Central Bus Station at 7:00 am, heading north to Pt Wakefield on the tip
of Gulf Saint Vincent. Perhaps indulge in a home made pie or pasty at the famous Kiplings
bakery? Then onto the magnificent southern Flinders Ranges, stopping at Melrose, the
oldest town in the Flinders and visit the original Bluey Blundstones blacksmith shop. Our
next stop is in the picturesque town of Quorn where many Australian outback movies
have been filmed including Smiley and Sunday Too Far Away. After lunch we cross the
outback terrain of the Wilochra Plains, home to kangaroos and emus, and the soaring
Wedgetail eagle. Then to Yourambulla Caves, to view 8000 year old aboriginal art. In the
late afternoon our final stop is Rawnsley Park Station on the southern side of famous
Wilpena Pound where we watch the sun set on the Wilpena Range. Relax around the
camp fire and enjoy a delicious meal prepared by your experienced tour guide.

DAY 2 Flinders Ranges – Oodnadatta Track – Marree
After a wholesome breakfast we explore the world famous Buneroo and Brachina Gorges
know as the Corridors of Time, a must see in any trip to the Flinders. Perhaps today we
will see the rare yellow footed rock wallaby? Lunch today is at the iconic Prarie Hotel at
Parachilna, where the menu offers delicious native foods. For the more adventurous,
kangaroo or emu perhaps? Now it’s time sit back and watch the mountains give way to
the desert of northern South Australia as we travel along the Oodnadatta track and stop
at the outback ghost town of Farina, once the largest town in the North to glimpse how
our early settlers lived and survived in this harsh environment. Late afternoon stop at
Marree with enough time to wander around this historic outback town which marks the
start of the famous Birdsville track. This is where the Afghan camel trains of up to 100
camels would camp before heading out into the harsh desert. Enjoy a cold beer or glass
of wine around the campfire while watching the jewelled desert sky.

DAY 3 Lake Eyre
Arrive at Lake Eyre, and some of the most spectacular scenery the outback has to
offer. A once-in-a-generation opportunity to witness the rebirth of the outback.We
take to the skies for a thrilling one and a half hour flight over this watery wonderland.
Back on the ground we ride through the sand dunes of the Tiari Desert, north
of Lake Eyre, where in 1964 Donald Campbell broke the land speed record in The
Blue Bird. A walk on the lake, then back to Mulurina Station for lunch, an oasis in
the desert. In the afternoon we follow the southerly track of the old Ghan railway,
to spend the night at a sheep station in the Northern Flinders Ranges.

DAY 4 Outback – Adelaide
An enjoyable day heading south with many photo opportunities to capture the
magnificent, rugged mountain ranges lifting up from the spectacular deserts that
are the Outback. No visit to South Australia would be complete with out the
opportunity to sample a little of our famous wine. With the iconic Clare Valley
within easy reach we have a afternoon stop at one of the best wineries the Valley
has to offer. Homeward bound from here, and into Adelaide around 6.00 pm.
