Nothing can carve a special place in your memory in the same manner as a Raging Thunder balloon flight at dawn over the spectacularly scenic Atherton Tablelands. This hour-long experience includes an opportunity to watch – or help with – your balloon’s inflation! Accommodating up to 20 people per flight, the giant balloons glide gracefully over the patchwork farms and bush land of the astonishing Mareeba Valley.

• Soar gleefully in the sky as you absorb panoramic views of the Atherton Tablelands towards Mareeba Valley.
• Encounter the divine sunrise from up close as you float across the air.
• Feel like part of nature as you glide peacefully over one of Australia’s most scenic bush lands.

You’ll leave Cairns early (at about 4:15 am) as you travel towards Mareeba Valley located on the Atherton Tablelands. Pick up and drop off at your Cairns or Cairns Beaches accommodation is offered as part of the package. The balloons are inflated in the morning and prepared for take-off. If you get there early enough, you can even assist in the balloon preparation process. Floating over Mareeba Valley is a surreal experience like no other. Your experienced pilot will gently manoeuvre the flight over astounding scenery, while the immense beauty around captivates you. Hot air ballooning is regarded as one of the most enthralling activities in the world and there’s no better place to do it than the Atherton Tablelands. The exquisite Kuranda range shields the area from strong coastal winds, making this peaceful valley an excellent hot air ballooning location.

The 30-minute first flight lifts off, while passengers for the second flight are on their way to the landing sight. The second flight takes off, while the passengers from the first flight travel to the pack-up site on board a comfortable coach. You’ll have a ton of fun helping to pack-up the giant balloons before heading for a rest stop site.

Don’t forget to look out for your photos from your memorable morning − to capture such a memorable event forever! You can pick these up before you head home from the Heritage Museum. These quality photos are produced immediately, so you can carry them with you straight away. Apart from photos, other merchandise is also available for purchase on the day. Once you’re done, we’ll safely return you to your hotel in Kuranda or Cairns, so that you can enjoy other activities on the rest of your trip.

For the best experience, all Raging Thunder hot air balloon flights take off at dawn to give guests the sunrise experience of a lifetime. We promise you a flight to remember!
