Tour Description
Stretching from the hills to the ocean, this wine region – famous for its Shiraz – embraces its rich heritage while keeping its eye firmly on the future. Contemporary cellar doors stand alongside boutique, stone wineries while traditional red wine grape varieties grow near emerging styles such as moscato, sangiovese and nebbiolo to name a few. Today the region boasts 76 cellar doors. For a glimpse of the area’s rich produce, join a Banksia Adventures guided tour and go beyond your expectations.
Depart the city on this small group tour and enjoy the commentary as you drive through Adelaide’s most popular beach side suburb and our cities first settlement – Glenelg. You will be shown the most scenic route along the coast to Aldinga Bay stopping at a local café for a delicious morning tea. From here we tour through the fertile vales via Willunga. The first winery we stop at for a tasting is the sensational Fox Creek cellar door.
Next is Wirra Wirra Vineyards & Cellars and on to the delightful Woodstock Winery & Coterie for a regional platter lunch, glass of wine and further tastings at the cellar door. Now for something a little different, we will visit The Olive Grove/Lloyd Brothers Wines to sample a selection of their produce and then continue to the main street of McLaren Vale.
You have some free time to explore other local specialty outlets such as Boutique Wine Tasting, Blessed Cheese, Almond & Olive Train, Market 190 Cafe, Yummy Nuts Markets, The Tin Shed Cafe, Healthy Life Organics, Dridan Fine Arts, Medlow Confectionery & Fruchocs Showcase or Hardy’s Tintara for more tastings. By now you will have a greater understanding of the famous McLaren Vale wine region, its history and present lifestyle.
