Mornington Peninsula is a popular holiday destination located around an hour south-east of urban Melbourne. Framed by Bass Strait, Port Phillip and Western Port, it’s renowned for its coastal areas, wildlife and spectacular vistas, and now you can see all its best bits in one 10-hour trip!
Departing from Melbourne early doors, you’ll be transferred to the affluent seaside town of Portsea, where you can partake in an early morning stroll in front of the pier and the resort’s colourful bathing boxes. You’ll then travel a short distance to Point Nepean National Park, located right on the western tip of the peninsula. History buffs can devour the various 19th century military fortifications on offer, but if none of that interests you, there’s always the blue expanse of ocean between you and Queenscliff to admire.
Returning inland, we’ll enjoy some hearty grub at the Pig and Whistle, an English bistro with some fabulous fare to share. The pub is located within spitting distance of Morning Sun Vineyard, so naturally there’ll be a chance to sample some chardonnay or pinot nero for those of age (sorry, kids!) If you’re lucky enough to be able to book the tour in summer, let us take you down to the strawberry fields of Sunnyridge Farm, where'll you'll be given the chance to pick your own fruit - yum yum!
Ever heard of the Enchanted Adventure Garden? Of course you have! An activity-filled afternoon awaits in this sprawling green expanse, with gardens and mazes everywhere you turn. For those who want to work off their lunch with something a bit more energetic, zip lining, high wiring and an absolutely huge tube slide lie in wait.
Finally, we’ll venture over 1,000 feet above sea level, up to Arthur’s Seat, the hill overlooking Port Phillip. Murray’s Lookout, named after European explorer and discoverer of the Bay, John Murray, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area, so you might have to wait your turn for a snap or two.
If a trip to Mornington tickles your fancy, we’ve got good news – the tour operates six days a week (closed on Sundays), departing from Melbourne at 7.30am (rise and shine!) and returning after the festivities at 6pm, when, after all the fun you’ll have had in Melbourne’s ‘local playground’, we’re assuming you’ll want to go straight home to bed!
