Camp out under the stars beneath the southern sky with Australia's unique wildlife as you travel along the coastline of the Great Ocean Road. Along the way, you'll experience some of the best destinations Victoria has to offer. On this three day tour, you will:
This Three Day Great Ocean Road and Grampians Camping Escape departs from Melbourne every Tuesday and Friday at 7:15am, so you can book for whichever day fits in best with your plans. A transfer service is available to pick you up from selected accommodation in the Melbourne CBD and take you to the departure point at 570 Flinders Street. This means you don't have to worry about organising your own transport on the day.
You'll begin your journey by travelling through the beautiful coastal towns of Torquay, Lorne, Anglesea, and Apollo Bay. From there, you'll head to Kennett River, where you'll get the chance to see koalas in their native habitat, before setting up camp under the stars with koalas and kangaroos in the Otway Ranges.
On your second day, you'll climb down the Gibson Steps, a naturally-occurring staircase set into the face of a cliff, and see the famous Twelve Apostles, and the collapsed London Bridge. After you've admired these incredible natural rock formations, you'll witness the beauty of the Bay of Martyrs and the Bay of Islands. Next, you'll visit the Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve inside what was once a live volcano, where you'll get to watch some even more exotic wildlife, including emus, sugar gliders, and black swans.
On your last stop of the day, you'll hike the Pinnacle Walk, and take in the spectacular view from the lookout, followed by a visit to McKenzie Falls, one of Australia's largest and most spectacular waterfalls.
You'll begin your last day with a lesson on Aboriginal heritage at the Brambuk Cultural Centre, where a host of fascinating artefacts from the area are on permanent display. Then you'll explore the Hollow Mountain Caves, and visit the locations of some of Australia's most impressive Aboriginal rock art sites, including the Cave of Hands, which has more hand stencils than any other site in Victoria.
Once your tour is complete, you'll connect to Adelaide on a luxury day bus, arriving in time for dinner at 7pm.
All main meals will be provided for you during your tour, so there's no need to pack your own food - just bring along some snacks for the road. This package also covers entrance fees, so you won't be hit with any surprise costs during your trip.
You'll be given a choice of accommodation to suit your personal preferences. Seasoned campers are welcome to roll their swags out beneath the Southern Cross, while less daring types have the option of upgrading to double or shared hostel accommodation (extra cost). If you don't own any camping gear, don't worry - equipment hire is included in the price. You can also hire sleeping bags for a small additional fee, so there's no need to shell out for expensive gear you might only use once.
If all that isn't adventurous enough for you, you can purchase a scenic helicopter flight over the Twelve Apostles and the surrounding coastline, or get your adrenaline pumping with a quad bike ride through the tropical rainforest.
With tours departing twice a week, there has never been a better time to discover why the Great Ocean Road is becoming one of Australia's most popular tourist destinations. Simply stated, whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, an animal-lover, or a history buff, this is one experience you don't want to miss. Book now and start your escape today!
