There’s truly nothing more relaxing than touring a gorgeous location by bike. Explore Rottnest Island in quiet comfort on a self-guided bike tour, after arriving by return ferry. The best way to see the island!
• Explore Rottnest Island in the most relaxing manner possible – by bike
• Hire some optional snorkelling gear and find out why Rottnest Island is such a popular dive site
• Tour the islands modern and historical features and learn about its fascinating past
• Indulge in plenty of free time, doing whatever you’d like
With accommodation pickups or the option of meeting at Pier 2, Barrack St Jetty for an 8:30 am departure, you’ll hop aboard either the Star Flyte Express, Eagle Express or the MV Sea Eagle Express and head out to sea. With your ferry being designed specifically to travel between the mainland and Rottnest Island, you’ll feel relaxed and comfortable along this attractive ocean route.
Once you reach Rottnest Island, you’ll probably give yourself a pat on the back for choosing the bike tour, as the calm, quiet atmosphere makes bicycling the perfect method of exploration. Before you head off on your self-guided bike tour, you can choose to hire some snorkelling gear (own expense) so that you can take advantage of seeing the island’s amazing dive sites, full of a plethora of fish species and other sea life. We recommend the Parker Point Promontory, Kitson Point, the West End or North Point; however, with plenty of thriving limestone coral reefs, shipwrecks, crystal clear waters and calm bays, you’re certain to find the ideal snorkelling location at one of the 63 gorgeous beaches encircling the island.
Besides snorkelling, there’s just so much to do on ‘Rottie’. You can explore the island’s historical areas and learn about the fascinating residents that once dwelled here. Discover the stories behind the island at Rottnest Museum, visit popular areas, such as Lomas Cottage, the Pilot Boat House and Oliver Hill. Take a stroll along the boardwalk at West End and admire the huge diversity of flora and fauna. See how many resident quolls you can spot and do some bird watching in this ‘Important Bird Area’.
If you’re feeling less adventurous, why not just enjoy a quiet picnic surrounded by natural beauty. Perhaps throw in a fishing line and catch lunch yourself or just laze around on the beach, jumping into the glassy turquoise water when you’ve had enough of warming yourself in the sun. Whatever you choose, you’re bound to love it!
After you’ve had your fill of this spectacular island (if that’s even possible), just head back to the ferry – which departs at about 3:55 pm – and you’ll be returned to the mainland, arriving at about 5:45 pm. From there, you’ll either end your tour or be returned to your accommodation.
