Ulysses Butterfly
The Australian Butterfly Sanctuary - a chance to be surrounded by butterflies, up to 2,000 of them! All the butterflies are native Australian, and all are found in this lush rainforest region of tropical north Queensland. Our Queensland icon, the Ulysses is easily spotted flying down to its host plant to lay eggs, feed and if you're lucky, land on you. Australia's largest butterfly, the Cairns Birdwing, is also easily seen - usually conducting their endless courtship dances. All the butterflies in the live display are hand reared on the premises, and are fairly relaxed around people, so it's not unusual for butterflies to hover around you and land, checking to see if you might be a flower. Wearing bright colours definitely increases your chances of being mistaken for a flower, especially reds, pinks and whites.
