We start our day around 9.00am and travel along the coast past Melbourne’s beachside suburbs and then head inland to our first stop for the day, Moorooduc Estate at Moorooduc. Established in 1982, Richard McIntyre has developed an enviable reputation for producing high quality chardonnay and pinot noir, using wild yeast fermentation. Cheese & biscuits would be enjoyed with the tasting.
A short drive away is the Yabby Lake Vineyard, one of the higher profile vineyards on the Peninsula. Established in 1998 and with 120 acres under vine, their focus is very much on pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot gris. For those looking for something bolder, their Heathcote Estate vineyard in Central Victoria produces a fuller bodied and richer shiraz.
Close by is the Mrs Nicks Vineyard in Merricks North. On 38 acres, 23 of which are under vine, their focus is on producing as intensely flavoured fruit as possible which comes from a strict pruning regime. Wines produced from these estate-grown grapes include chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, pinot noir and merlot.
After the tasting, we move into the rustic and warm surrounds of the Salix Barn, the new home for local foodies, Bernard & Rachael McCarthy. Enjoy a main course a la carte lunch and glass of Mrs Nicks wine, followed by tea and coffee.
After lunch, visits would be made to Mornington Peninsula Chocolates at Flinders and Red Hill Cheese at Main Ridge. Both properties complement the wineries beautifully and offer variety that’s missing in other wine regions. On days when both these properties are closed, a visit would be made to either Quealy Wines, Stonier Wines or Ten Minutes by Tractor Vineyard.
Transport, cheese & biscuits with wine tasting at Moorooduc, main course a la carte lunch, glass of wine and coffee at Barn & Co, wine tasting at Yabby Lake, Balnarring and/or Stonier/Red Hill Cheese*, tastings at Mornington Peninsula Chocolates**, bottled water.
