You will be picked up from your hotel or your home anywhere in the Hobart area at 9 am to depart on a five-hour tour that will take your breath away. Your first stop is Wellington Park, Tasmania’s national treasure. Wellington Park is Hobart’s picturesque front yard. It is never closed and allows the locals to wander in and out of its magical natural wonderland at any time. And by locals, we mean all of those who enjoy Hobart by foot, wing or gill.
Wellington Park is home to a host of flora and fauna, many of which are native not only to Australia but to Tasmania specifically. At Wellington Park, you will see the very essence of the raw beauty that makes Tasmania a famous environmentalist destination. You can climb the pinnacle and feel sub-zero temperatures, or stroll under the cool of a forest gully where gum trees and waratahs tower over you in an old English parkland.
Your next stop is the magical wildlife safe haven of Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary. Here, your tour guide will give you a bag of feed so that you can hand-feed the kangaroos and wallabies that will hop around you as you walk through the park. You can cuddle a koala and watch the Tassie devil as it crushes bones and devilishly snarls and snorts its way through life.
As well as the world-famous and highly endangered Tasmanian devil, you will get to see many other species that are extinct everywhere but Tasmania, including the Eastern Quoll, the Tasmanian Pademelon and the shy Tasmanian Bettong. By participating as a visitor at Bonorong, you are helping to keep the legacy of these fantastic creatures alive as the park maintains the health of this dying breed and is run on visitor entry fees.
