Leave Darwin city heading South along the trans-continental Stuart Hwy with your journey enhanced by our driver guides regaling you with details on the iconic Top End of Australia. Turning due East onto the Arnhem Hwy you will be traversing through the infamous Humpty Doo region followed by the expansive Adelaide River floodplain, just over an hour into the trip you will be arriving at an ‘Outback Roadhouse’ to stop for a morning tea stop or late breakfast (at own expense).
Journeying into the World Heritage listed Kakadu National park you will be surrounded by vast tracks of savannah woodland, bordered by the largest wetland systems in Australia. As you head deep into the park you will pass through a variety of eco-systems such as Monsoonal Rainforest, Sandstone Country and the worlds most protected river the system the South Alligator River. In the cool of the mid-morning you will arrive at Kakadu’s premier art site ‘Ubirr’, the walk is an easy to moderate loop walk which takes you into numerous galleries of rock art and shelters that were used as recently as 40 years ago by the traditional people of Kakadu. The hundreds of paintings and views across the floodplains and sandstone country into Arnhem Land are breathtaking and are why Ubirr is the most visited art site within Kakadu.
After your included lunch stop arrive at the architectural awarded tropical design park headquarters Bowali. Followed by free time to explore the numerous park oriented interactive displays, research library, theatres, art gallery, gift shop and staffed information desks.
Join a cruise located on a wetland system that houses the world’s highest concentration of Crocodiles and is 10 times the size of Yellow Water’s. Your cruise is one direction (see twice as much with no back tracking) East to West through the Mary River Wetlands. The abundance of food which sustains the large crocodile population also feeds a myriad of bird species, wallaby’s and water buffalo. The aquatic and land based food chain found throughout the billabong system is something that has to be seen to be believed. Finish your cruise parked amongst a stand of sacred lotus lilies with a glass of sparkling wine and a fresh tropical fruit platter to compliment the majestic surrounds of these internationally significant wetlands.
