Tour ID: 10055850
Immerse yourself in scenic beauty while travelling the famous Great Ocean Road. See exquisite Australian wildlife, magnificent surf beaches, take a walk in an ancient rainforest and witness the marvel of the Twelve Apostles at sunset.
This fabulous 14-hour tour is an absolutely delightful way to spend your day. You’ll depart Melbourne CBD at 10 am every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, with various accommodation pickups available on request. Travelling in a luxurious modern coach with a friendly, professional driver guide and fellow adventure seekers, you’ll head out to view some of the most spectacular sights imaginable. The Port Campbell National Park features are many and varied and all will leave you gobsmacked.
The sight of the sheer cliffs that overlook the pristine offshore islets, rocky outcrop stacks, deep gorges, wind and water chiselled arches and spectacular blow-holes will take your breath away; but, the flora in this area is not to be outdone! The beard heath and grasslands that thrive in this garden landscape combine with bower spinach, coast daisy bush, daisies, cushion bush plus the delicate sun and spider orchid to perfection. In the ‘wilder’ terrains, an assortment of the mighty she-oaks, dogwoods, messmate, cascading guinea-flower, woolly tea-tree, aromatic scented paperbark and correas all dressed up in fuchsia-like drops of scarlet yellow and white will leave you wondering how this region could get any better. Well, it does.
This area is teeming with unique Australian wildlife, on land, in the oceans and in the air. Look around and spot a southern emu doing a bit of food shopping, the gigantic ocean wandering albatross soar majestically in the ever-changing up and down drafts of the wind currents or the peregrine falcon as he does a spot of fishing. Land animals in the park include the southern brown bandicoot, antechinus – which is a teeny little native marsupial mouse, shrew like in appearance and as cute as a button – and watch out for very sleepy, cuddly Koalas, high in the Manna Gum trees.
You’ll then travel along the Shipwreck Coast. It is believed that 700 ships have been wrecked with fewer than a third being discovered. Follow the Historic Shipwreck Trail that features signposts that indicate twenty-five of the best-known wrecks. Loch Ard is probably the most recognisable shipwreck in this region and she went down just off Mutton Bird Island. It’s now time for a spectacular viewing of the colossal limestone towers of the Twelve Apostles. These outcrops that stand up to the thunderous, pounding, pummelling waves of the Great Southern Ocean are an extra special sight at sunset, as liquid rainbow coloured sun rays bounce and play off the ocean spray. After an amazing day, you’ll arrive back in Melbourne at 9:30 pm in winter and 11:30 pm in summer.
