Drive the world famous Great Ocean Road with stunning coastal scenery, unique wildlife, top quality accommodation and gourmet food to discover along the way. This is a true experience, ranging from the churning water at Bells Beach to the sunny uplands of The Grampians. Tour highlights:
The Great Ocean Road and the Grampians are Victoria’s crown jewels for natural beauty, attracting tens of thousands of visitors from around the world every year.
The stunning, rugged coastline of the Great Ocean Road and the high peaks and thick bush found in the Grampians are what Australia is all about.
But most people only ever see one or two of the special places these attractions boast. That’s why the best way to see everything – and see it in comfort and style – is to take a road trip, and the Great Ocean Road and Grampians three day tour from Melbourne to Adelaide has the perfect itinerary for seeing it all:
On day one, we depart from Melbourne and cruise toward the Great Ocean Road to check out the surf at famous beaches like Bells Beach and the town of Torquay, where surfing labels like Quicksilver and RipCurl hail from.
Next up, we’ll cruise along the winding coastal road and visit idyllic towns like Apollo Bay and Lorne, exploring their quaint streets and admiring the beautiful views.
Then it’s back on the bus to drive along to Kennett River where koalas can be seen in the wild, climbing trees and eating leaves - this is perfect for a photo opportunity! This wild and historic section of the Great Ocean Road was created by returned first world war servicemen, who carved their way through the cliffs.
After seeing the koalas, we’ll visit the Great Otway National Park for a hike through some of the world’s oldest temperate rainforest.
Our day ends with a visit to the spectacular Twelve Apostles – huge pillars of limestone rock set amid churning waves. We’ll stroll on to a boardwalk for perfect views of the sun setting behind these iconic formations.
When the day is done, we’ll settle into dormitory-style accommodation in a backpacker’s hostel on the Great Ocean Road for a well-earned rest.
On the second day, we’ll continue our cruise along the Great Ocean Road and visit a number of amazing rock formations, found in an area called the Shipwreck Coast. These include the Bay of Martyrs, London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge.
Come lunch time, we’ll take a break at Tower Hill Reserve, where you can see a huge range of native wildlife including koalas, emus, possums, kangaroos, echidnas, many types of bird and much, much more.
Now it’s time to enter the Grampians National Park for an afternoon adventure.
Timing it just right, we’ll set out for an easy one hour long hike right before sunset when local wildlife like wallabies and kookaburras can be seen easily. We’ll head towards a spectacular viewing area at The Balconies where clear views of the Grampians beautiful ranges and valleys can be seen.
That night, we’ll sleep in a wood hut with the Grampians looming tall all around us.
Sleep well, because at the start of day three we’ll be up and at ‘em for a challenging two hour hike up The Pinnacle, where colossal views make the effort well worth it! A decent level of fitness is required.
Following this amazing experience, we’ll go to the Brambuk Cultural Centre to gain insights into the history of local Aboriginal culture. Our final stop is to have a look at the impressive Mt Arapiles, the perfect end to our adventure in Australia’s beautiful natural environment.
We’ll then drive straight to Adelaide and arrive at approximately 7pm.
