Your day starts at the Skyrail Smithfield terminal where you join hop onto the Skyrail Gondola and glide across the rainforest canopy. Spend some time at the two mid stations where you can take a guided or self guided tour of the rainforest floor along the boardwalks. At Kuranda you will be transfered to Rainforestation which includes amphibious Army Duck tours of the rainforest, native wildlife and the Pamagirri Cultural Dancers. Your return trip to Cairns is on the Kuranda Scenic Railway, a historic line built over 100 years ago, Travel through the many tunnels and bridges as you descent into Cairns. Depart the train at Freshwater station for a transfer back to Skyrail terminal where you day started.

  • Skyrail one way journey to Kuranda with time to explore the Red Peak and Barron Falls mid-stations
  • Transfers and entry to Rainforestation where you can ride the WW2 Army Ducks, see koalas & kangaroos and watch the Pamagirri Cultural Dancers.
  • Take the kuranda Scenic Railway back to Cairns passing Barron Falls and Stoney Creek Falls along the way.

This tour is for passengers who will be driving themselves to Skyrail's Smithfield terminal, where there is ample parking and start your tour on the Rainforest Cableway. When you return on the Kuranda Scenic Rail a coach transfer service will bring you from Freshwater Connection Train Station back to the Skyrail Smithfield terminal.

Skyrail operates in all weather rain or shine, and is the world's most beautiful rainforest experience.

    Diamond View Gondola Skyrail Upgrade: You may like to upgrade your Skyrail journey to a Diamond View Gondola.

    • Take in the spectacular tropical rainforest from the unique viewing perspective of Skyrail’s glass floor Diamond View Gondolas.
    • There are 11 Diamond View gondolas that each carry a maximum of 5 passengers, and will depart stations approximately every 7 minutes. Passengers travelling on them will enjoy dedicated boarding queues at all terminals and stations. Allow an additional 30mins for your Diamond View journey.


    Gold Class Train Upgrade: You may like to upgrade from the standard Heritage Class Carriage to the Gold Class Carriage.

    • Afternoon Service: Gold Class is ONLY available on the afternoon 3.30pm service and ends once the train reaches Freshwater Station (@ 5pm). Gold Class passengers will be served welcome drinks served onboard the train at Kuranda station 20 mins prior to the departuer of the 3.30pm afternoon service.
    • Gold Class offers individual seating in lounge-style chairs, historical decor, with a dedicated host service provided.
    • Afternoon Tea is included in Gold Class and feature a selection of Queensland and local Tablelands produce such as Gallo Dairyland Cheese, Skybury Coffee, Wondaree Macadamias, Mango to Go (100% pure mango treat), freshly baked muffins, Sirromet wines and Great Northern Brewing Company Super Crisp Lager.     SELF DRIVE - Skyrail’s Smithfield Terminal is located at the corner of Captain Cook Highway and Cairns Western Arterial Road, Smithfield, just 15 minutes drive north of Cairns city and 50 minutes south of Port Douglas.

  • What to bring:

    Daypacks and fold-up baby strollers can be taken on the cableway. Luggage is not able to be carried on the cableway or coach transfer service. Consider downloading the Skyrail App from the AppStore or Google Play to augment your Skyrail experience.

    Skyrail is the World’s Most Beautiful Rainforest Experience. A 7.5km cableway, Skyrail glides just metres over the canopy of Australia’s World Heritage listed Tropical Rainforests. Two mid-stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls, provide the perfect opportunity to explore and learn more about this ancient environment on boardwalks and at the Rainforest Interpretation Centre.
