The Eyre Peninsula is one of those great secrets many people have not yet discovered. Teeming with some of Australia's most amazing and outstanding real wildlife experiences, the lack of a major airport and too far to drive for most domestic travellers, this piece of paradise is one that only those who have been, can give that knowing smile of discovery of a very special place indeed.

Day 1 - Adelaide to Port Lincoln & Mikkira Station
After pickup up we leave YHA Adelaide at 5 am and head to the Eyre Peninsula via Port Augusta and Whyalla. When we arrive in Port Lincoln and after we have checked into the YHA we explore Port Lincoln, learn about the fishing industry. The tour then heads out to Mikkira Station to see the Giant Yakka’s and Eyre Peninsula Koalas feeding on the Manna Gums. Upon returning to Port Lincoln we take a look from Winters Hill lookout.
Tour Note: If the SeaSA Ferry is not running, the tour travels through Port Augusta and down to Port Lincoln – this takes about the same amount of time and passengers can see the landscape change and view the Southern Flinders Ranges as we travel to Port Lincoln.
Day 2 (Shark Cage Dive)
Depending on your love affair with fear, today you’ll either be diving into the world of Great White Sharks or taking a more relaxing option checking out some land based wildlife.
Choosing to play with sharks?
For those who have booked a shark experience today is an extreme day of fun! Those that dare come face to face with the Great White Shark on this day tour are up at 5.45 am to board the vessel at 6.30 am. Sit back, relax and enjoy the 2 ½ hour cruise which is often accompanied by pods of dolphins and even the odd whale, in season. During the trip the crew will provides information about the fishing industries, the ‘local area’ and the marine life. ’Take in the spectacular coastal scenery of lower Spencer Gulf and the islands of Thorny Passage.
Then its time to face your fears! Once the sharks arrive groups will have the opportunity to spend about 45 minutes in the cage, face to face with the amazing Great White Shark. Please note that time in the cage can vary and will depend on shark activity and weather on the day.
All meals are provided - breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, plus coffee/tea.
Staying on Land?
Those not wishing to be quite so extreme it is also up early to hike up Samford Hill in the Port Lincoln National Park which overlooks Port Lincoln and Boston Bay. The group then travels down to Fishery Bay for a swim or just relax on the beach. From here it is just a short distance to Whalers Way Conservation Park. The southernmost tip of the Eyre Peninsula contains some of the most accessible and ruggedly beautiful coastal scenery in South Australia. It is a photographer’s paradise, a wonderland of cliffs, blowholes, crevasses, caves and golden beaches.
After your adventure packed day you’ll head back to the YHA for your dinner and a good night’s rest!
Day 3 (Swim with Sea Lions)
Another once in a lifetime wildlife experience today heading out on a half day boat cruise to Hopkins Island and taking part in one of Australia’s many unique wildlife experiences, swimming with sea lions. This half-day adventure takes us to a friendly community of sea lions where you can swim, snorkel, paddle and splash about in the company of these inquisitive animals. These puppy dogs of the sea love splashing, jumping, twisting, and twirling all around you and if you’re lucky you might even get a kiss!
Included in the cost is your Mask, Snorkel, Wetsuit and Fins, light breakfast served in departure lounge, morning tea on board & free photos.
Those preferring to stay on dry land can spend the day in Port Lincoln, perhaps strolling the foreshore or enjoying some fresh local seafood visit Glen Forest Wildlife Park and while there, those wishing to jump on board a Segway (Own cost) to explore the rest of this Wildlife Park.
Once the Sea lion boat tour boat arrives back into the Port Lincoln Marina, with lunch already prepared we start our journey back to Adelaide with 2 of Australia’s Wildlife Bucket list experiences “Ticked Off”. We arrive in Adelaide around 8.30pm and there is no accommodation tonight so remember to book it before you leave.
