Mount Wellington (now known as Kunanyi / Mount Wellington) contributes significantly to the ‘Apple Isle’s’ overall appeal. Rising 1,269 metres, it towers magnificently over the city of Hobart and is quite often snowcapped – even in the warmer months! The views of Mount Wellington from Hobart are spectacular, with escarpments of columned dolerite – called the Organ Pipes – being one of its most noticeable features. With 18,000 hectares of thick, wildlife-filled wilderness accessible just 20 minutes from the city, the Mount Wellington reserve area is one of Hobart’s primary tourist drawcards.
